Our First Jungle Hike

This past Saturday the whole family went on a “Community Tour” hike.  It was about 1.5 hours of just letting us see some of the villages around us and where the closest church is.  First are just a couple of jungle pictures.  This hike took us mainly on dirt foot paths but we have since done a hike where we were walking through chest high saw grass.  I forgot the camera on that hike though so you need to wait another week for some more pictures.

It is so lush and green here.  Bananas grow wild everywhere.  I have also seen star fruit, guava, various citrus fruit, coconut and papaya trees growing wild.

This hike took us across a log bridge.  Most stream crossing have these simple bridges built across them.  They wash out regularly in heavy rains but are easily rebuilt with materials that grow nearby.  You can see Zeke on by back as I help Susie cross.  We have decided to take Zeke on a 3-day hike with us later on so I am getting use to carrying him on some interesting terrain.

Here are Peter and the big kids in front of a traditional village house.  Most homes are built using bamboo, or other readily available timber, and have thatched roofs and woven walls.  When we go to the village living phase of POC we will be living in a house similar to this.

One last shoot of an old car.  There is no AAA here to help you out when your car breaks down.  So where it dies, it lies.  I have seen many old car, trucks and even a bus alongside the roads that have turned into flower pots.

  1. that is actually really cool. I can't believe the flowers that grew around it.
